Abstract
Intensive care units are the most important parts of hospitals. In our country there is not enough data concerning about technical properties and results of patient care in intensive care units. In order to evaluate the patient characteristics and technical adequacy of our intensive care unit. We analysed the data of 100 patients which had been treated between January 1994 and March 1994. We concluded that the lack of some technical and personal inadequacy and found a high mortality (62%), infection (29%) and decubitis ulcers (6%) rates. Although we have not used prognostic scoring initially, we concluded that high mortality rate might be due to personal, place and material problems. This study showed us the paramount importance of using scoring systems in intensive care units. To compare the data to other centers is difficult without scoring systems.
