Abstract

Type I diabetes mellitus is the most common form of childhood and adolescent diabetes. However, there is an increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and subtypes. Maturity Onset Diabetes of Young (MODY) isa relatively prevalent form of these diabetes subgroups. Here, we have reported a patient who had been thought as having MODY 2, with a diabetes startedat 2.5 months old. When she had a honeymoon within 4 months of insulin therapy, insulin was stopped and the family had not revisited the hospital again for ten years, because she had no complaint of diabetes. At the second admission at 10 years of age for an inguinal lymphadenomegaly, her blood glucose was measured 407 mgldl during routine check-up and she was hospitalised again for a research about the type of this diabetes. A moderate decrease in insulin respanses to both intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) and glucagon stimulation test, history of diabetes within the family and no evidence of diabetic complications for ten years without any therapy led us to the possibility of MODY 2 diagnosis.
