Abstract
Hypertriglyceridemia is a rare cause of acute pancreatitis. In this study, two patients with acute pancreatitis induced by primary lıyperlipidemia of Frederickson type 5 were reported. The diagnosis is based upon history, physical signs and concomitant increments in both plasma triglyceride and urinary amylase levels. Patients were treated initially by conservative measures and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN). After oral feeding resumed Clofibrate (1 gm/day) is added to the treatment. Restriction of dietary saturated fat and cholesterol and adding Clofibrate when necessary, prevented the elevations of lipid values and reccurent pancreatitis in both patients. In two-year follow -up period reccurent pancreatitis and abnormal triglycerid values is not observed with the use of Clofibrate and fat-free diet in both patients.
