Abstract
INTRODUCTION
Aim of this study is to make a contribution to district, state and world statistics and to shed light on to the officials or civil people and institutions, law-makers and coordinators by determining our district’s person with disability profile from the analysis of ‘medical board report for people with disability’ arranged by İzmir Karşıyaka State Hospital in 2014.
METHODS
In this study, 2166 ‘medical board report for people with disability’ between 01.01.2014 and 30.12.2014, were analysed retrospectively. Socio-demographic characteristics (age, sex, etc.), dates of the reports, departments and clinics that made the diagnosis, disability ratios, presence of severe disability, validity periods of the reports, disability groups, purposes to take the report (reasons to request the report) were coded by one by, transferred to computer (SPSS for Windows 17.0 packed program was used for statistical analysis) for analysis and compared with similar studies.
RESULTS
52.4% (n=1136) of our cases were male and 47.6% (n=1030) were female. 1375 (63.5%) cases had a disability ratio above 50% and more. Remaining 791 (36.5%) cases had a disability ratio below 50%. 15.7% (339) of the cases had severe disability. It was found that 91.3% of the reports were permanent.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
From the point of 'social state' principle of our constitution, to manage the needs for socio-economic support and rehabilitation services of steadily increasing number of people with disability, it is important to know people with disability population and disability types. We think, by sharing the findings of 2166 cases, we may make a contribution to district and state statistics and can manage guiding information to law-makers and coordinators.
