Abstract
INTRODUCTION
Aim of this study is, to determine the criminal profile of our district by the analysis of the criminal reports those arranged by İzmir Karşıyaka State Hospital Department of Forensic Medicine in 2015 and by these findings,to make a contribution people who and institutions that work for the prevention of criminal cases.
METHODS
This study was conducted by the retrospective analysis of 1022 criminal reports between 01.01.2015 and 30.11.2015 (11 months). Socioeconomic characteristics of the cases, dates of the reports, type of the incident (the type of injury), injured body parts and severity of the injury (according to decisions in the conclusion part of the report), coded by one by, transferred to computer (SPSS for Windows 17.0 packed program) for analysis and compared with similar studies.
RESULTS
70.1% (n=716) of 1022 cases were male and 29.9% (n=306) were female. Most of the cases were in young and middle-age groups. Most of the patients (335) were admitted in summer and the June was the leading month with 131 cases. Of the 1022 cases 61.2 % (626) were the assaults and 27.4 % (279) were traffic accident injuries. 57.3% (586) of the injuries were blunt trauma, 2.8% (29) were stab wounds and 1.1% (11) were gunshot wounds. In the single body-part injuries, head and neck (n=307, 30.0% ) and extemity (n=250, 24.5%) injuries were the leading regions that effected. Nasal bone was the most common broken bone (n=64, 6.3%).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
The determination of the statistical findings and the creation of district profiles and database in criminal cases, have an important role in the prevention efforts of these incidents. (Training and anger management in the incidents like; domestic violence, violence against women, children driven to crime, traffic accidents, effective action – assault, etc.)
