Abstract

Aim: To investigate chronic tiredness and burnout symptoms in the nurses who works in our hospital. Material and Method: 107 nurses working at various departments in our hospital and who agreed to participate this study were included. A subject related questionnaire was applied to nurses. The data is evaluated on the base of percentage analysis. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 16.0. Findings: 87.80% (94) of the 107 nurses were women, and 12.20% (13) were men. The age interval for 57.90% (62) of the 107 nurses participating to the survey was 30-40 years while 24.30% (26) of them were under 30 years and 17.80% (19) of them were above 40 years of age. 25% of the nurses were working at pediatric department while 21.30% at general surgery department, 27.80% at emergency service and intensive care units respectively. While 63.55 % (68) of participants were working as day shift and night duty, 33.64% (36) of nurses were working only during day shift. 52.80% continuous sleep problems and 76.90% chronic tiredness were recorded in this group. Conclusion: Health care workers, especially nurses, which is the subject of this study is a occupational group who are at risk for burnout.
