Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Changes in carcinogenesis step such as metaplasia and dysplasia in cases with chronic cholecystitis that develop due to cholelithiasis and progress with chronic inflammation may be significant in terms of other intra-abdominal organ neoplasms. As in our study, cases with metaplasia and dysplasia should be screened in other intraabdominal systems.

METHODS

68 patients who had dysplasia after cholecystectomy operation between 01.01.2010 and 01.07.2012 in Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital General Surgery Clinic were evaluated retrospectively in terms of accompanying gastrointestinal malignancy.

RESULTS

There were 2 accompanying malignancies and 2 gastrointestinal system malignancies in the follow-up period in patients that had cholecystectomy operation and metaplasia/displasia results in histopathological evaluation

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

Patients with metaplasia / dysplasia in the pathology results after cholecystectomy should be followed closely for gastrointestinal system malignancies.
