Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common bacterial infections in childhood. The main long term consequence of UTIs is renal scarring which may lead to hypertension and end-stage renal disease. It is vital, therefore, to diagnose and treat early UTIs in children. In this article, definitions, epidemiology, clinical features, pathogenesis and clinical importance of childhood UTIs are discussed.
