AIM: In this study we tried to compare the result of Bassini and prolen mesh graft technique in inguinal hemia repair. MATERIAL and METHOD: This study was performed on 100 inguinal hernia patients between May 96 - November 97. While 50 patients were operated with Bassini technique, other 50 treated with prolen mesh graft repair. There were 5 female, 45 male patients in Bassini group and 3 female, 47 male in prolen mesh group. Average age was 47.1 in Bassini group, 50.0 in prolen mesh group. patients were followed 28 months postoperatively. RESULTS: While there were no recurrences in prolen mesh group, we detected 4 recurrences in Bassini group. There were postoperative complications in two cases in Bassini group and in three cases in prolen mesh group. CONCLUSION: There was no statistical difference between two groups according to complication rates, but prolen mesh group was significantly better for recurrence rate.
