Abstract
Aim: To investigate any relationship between sodium and potassium levels in blood gas analysis and the levels measured by otoanalyzer. Materials and methods: In our study, 2354 patient's test results of Na and K measurements simultaneously in blood gas and autoanalyzer were evaluated retrospectively for about 6 months period. In the emergency department Findings: Mean K values which is measured on blood gas and autoanalysers were 3.77 ± 0.84 mmol/l and 4.46 ± 0.80 mmol/l respectively. The mean difference was 0.68 ± 0.61 mmol/l for K. Mean Na values which is measured on blood gas and autoanalysers were 145.14±7.40 and 135.88±5.29 mmol/l respectively. The mean difference was -9.26±6.54 mmol/l for Na. Conclusion: It is not appropriate to use results of K and Na measurements in blood gas analysis instead of the results measured by the autoanalyzer
