Abstract

Management of lower urinary tract symptoms in ageing man is changing nowadays. Changes in systemic and neurologic features of body and anatomical and functional status of bladder in ageing men is well known. Symptoms arising from these changes should not be diagnosed in restricted terms like Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatism and should be reviewed in versatile and detailed way. These changes can result in neccessity of more complex diagnostic tools beside simple tests for BPH. It is also known that surgical or medical (alpha blockers) treatments recommended for BPH could not be a complete solution for lower urinar tract symptoms in ageing men. Anticholinergic treatment of patients with prominent storage symptoms or addition of alpha blockers to this treatment can be an alternative solution. It's essential to become systematic and catious in managment of lower urinary tract symtoms in ageing men.
