Abstract

Migraine, which has a broad clinical spectrum of recurrent headaches, is one of the most frequently seen primary headaches in children and adolescents. Definite diagnosis and proper treatment of migraine, which may cause low life quality and school absenteeism ar e very important. Most of the patients remain without diagnosis and treatment, as well, since the patients are not referred to a physician on time due to long painless in tervals. Also the diagnosis of migraine seems to be omitted by physicians because of the young age of the patients. Improvements of the classification of headache disorders enable the authors to communicate better along with establishing better diagnostic methods and treatment modalities. This in turn contributes not only to a better recognition of the disorder in the clinics, but also to nosological researches that have improved the characterization of many headache disorders. Here, we wanted to review the novelties in the diagnosis of childhood and adolescent migraine headaches with the guidance of the classification criteria developed by International Headache Society in 2004.
