Abstract
INTRODUCTION
To evaluate clinical, pathological features and operative approaches for patients with mature cystic teratoma diagnosis.
METHODS
A total 110 women with mature cystic teratoma diagnosis between 2006-2015 were evaluated retrospectively.
RESULTS
The mean age was 34.7. The mean volume of tumors were 128.2 cm3. Two cases showed bilateral localization (1.8%). Only, 9.09% of patients were postmenopausal. Operation method was laparotomy for 56.4% of cases and laparoscopy for 19.1% of them. Mature cystic teratoma was detected in 24.5% of cases during cesarean. The most common preferred types of surgery were salpingo-oophorectomy (39.1%) and cyst excision (33.6 %). Torsion was detected intraoperatively in 6.36 % of cases. Malignant transformation was seen in a postmenopausal cases (0.9 %).
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION
Mature cystic teratoma is seen in women of reproductive age and torsion is its most common complication. Unilateral localization and rare malignant transformation tendency are its characteristic features.
