Abstract
Aim: Chronic diseases constitute a major health problem all over the word. One of them is diabetes mellitus (DM). DM is a metabolic disorder, characterised by decrease in the amount of insulin secreted from beta cells, insulin absence and hiper-glisemia because of insulin insensitivity in the peripherial tissue. One of its’ complicasion is depression. In this study; relationship between diabetes and depression was aimed to be compared by two different scales. Material and Method: Study was performed in Izmir Tepecik Education and Research Hospital Family Medicine Polyclinic between March-June 2013. All diabetec patients, who agreed to participate in the study, were included (n: 80). Quick Self- Rated Depressive Symptoms Inventory Form and Beck Depression Inventory were applied and evaluated. Quartet with Likert- type ratings, questions and scale according to the percentage distribution of statistical significance were removed and patients’ scores were calculated. Findings: Total 80 person; 41 women (51.2%) and 39 men (48.8%) were participated to the study. 55 participants (68.8%) were under 65 years old and 25 participants (31.2%) were older than 65. 43 people (53.8%) showed depressive symptomatology according to quick self-related depressive symptoms inventory. According to beck depression inventory, 54 persons (67.5%) showed depressive symptomatology. Answers for questions in both of the scales; when compared with each other, demonstrated statistical significance among themselves. Conclusion: In this study, it is found out that we need to be careful in our population in terms of psychiatric disorders. The implementation of the above two scales for every patients admitted for any reason, has diagnostic value
