Abstract

Aortic coarctation(AoC) is a disease, characterized primarily by aortic norrowing after the left subclavian artery ostium, it is accounted for 5-8% in congenital heart disease, and 4-8 in 1000 live births in a healthy population. AoC may occur alone, but it is often associated with other cardiovascular congenital anomalies, the most common coexisting pathologhy is the presence of bicuspid aortic valve(BAV) (50% -75%). The diagnosis of AoC and in early treatment is important for prognosis, long-term risk reduction is related to low morbidity and mortality. Interventional treatment should be decided after a heart team including cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiac radiologists and anesthetists. Proper patient selection and use of stents, can lead to successful outcomes in terms of tension arterial(TA) control and reducing complication rates superior to medical treatment for adults with native AoC.
