Abstract
Fluid retention syndrome or idiopathic oedema is a clinical entity almost exclusively seen in women, which remains poorly understood. It can produce a variety of symptoms ranging from headaches and blurring of vision to abdominal pains and diarhoea. More commonly, it presents with symptoms of bloating, fatigue and weakness. In this review, the articles about the general features, factors that are thought to be effective on physiopathology, differential diagnosis and management of the syndrome have been reviewed. In these reports, the syndrome was held responsible as the etiologic factor in a majör group of patients with nonspecific symptoms. Fluid retention syndrome should be borne in mind in case of patients with the aforementioned symtomatology.
