Abstract
Aim: To investigate the hepatitis B and hepatitis C seroprevalence of dining room staff in Dr. Suat Seren Pulmonary Diseases Teaching and Research Hospital and Tepecik Teaching and Research Hospital. Material and Methods: In our study, serum samples were collected from 77 dining room staff of both Dr. Suat Seren Pulmonary Diseases Teaching and Research Hospital and Tepecik Teaching and Research Hospital. HBsAg and AntiHBs and Anti-HCV markers were studied by enzyme immunoassay (Diasorin, Italy) and besides demographic data were evaluated. Results: Of the 77 dining room staff, 49 (63.6%) were HBsAg positive and AntiHBs negative. Twenty seven (35.2%) were HBsAg negative and AntiHBs positive. One dining room staff (1.2%) was HBsAg positive and AntiHBs negative. Anti-HCV was not detected in any of the staff members. Conclusion: In this study detected ratio of 1.2% HBsAg seroprevalance among the dining room staff of both hospitals is lower than the other studies. Seroprevalance studies of hepatitis B virus should be held in various time intervals among dining room staff for public health measures. The ones that are not exposed to Hepatitis B virus (HBV) need to be vaccinated.
