Abstract

Many events in the history of man have been influenced by the liver. Babylonians and Assyrians attached great importance to "inspecting liver" of a sacrificed animal before important decision were taken. Hardly any Greek or Roman statesman or general was not influenced in his actions by the outcome of liver inspection.
