Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate retrospectively the patients treated in our department with a diagnosis of diabetic ketoacidosis.

METHODS

The files of the patients were evaluated regarding gender, age, symptoms, clinical features, diabetic stories, the pre-treatment and laboratory findings.

RESULTS

The mean age 34.93 ± 17.5 to 6 females and 8 males were enrolled in the study. The most common symptoms of nausea, vomiting, respectively and confusion. Insufficient dose of insulin usage in five cases and sepsis due to urinary infection in 7 cases were the reason of ketoacidosis. Only one case requested emergency hemodialysis among 7 cases with high level of urea/creatinin. Mean 40.5 ± 6 hours in patients underwent insulin infusion. They stayed an average of 4.43 ± 2.6 days in the hospital. There was no complication or mortality.

CONCLUSION

Patients with DKA, requiring an accurate and rapid diagnosis, should be managed appropriate therapy. We observed that DKA in adult age group can be successfully treated by an energetically approach.
