Abstract
AIM: Since many variations of hypospadias exist, a lot of various surgical techniques had been proposed. We evaluated the results of Arap uretroplasty in our patients. MATERIAL AND METHOD: One hundred-twelve patients with glanular hypospadias were undergone Arap Urethroplasty in our clinic and cosmetic consequences, functional results, complications and re-operations of these patients were reviewed retrospectively. As a modification, meatus was created as a süt to avoid meatal stenosis. FINDINGS: Betvveen 1995 and 2008, 437 patients with different degrees of hypospadias were operated in our clinic. Glanular hypospadias was the pathology in 198 patients. Of 198 patients, 112 were undergone Arap Urethroplasty by the same surgeon. No indwelling catheter was used and all but one patient were discharged at the same d ay of operation. CONCLUSION: Glans sutures of 3 patients were disrupted and second repair was required. One patient was suffered from postoperative bleeding from glans penis. Meatal stenosis in one patient required meatotomy. Remaining 107 patients vvere complication free. MAGPI (Meatal Advancement and Glanuloplasty Incorporated) is a surgical technique which allows carrying ureathral meatus to the tip of the glans by using of the elasticity of urethra. Arap and his collogues modified this technique. Arap urethroplasty which also may be applied to more proximal hypospadias is a safe and feasible technique.
