Abstract
Aim: Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent aphthous oral ulcers, genital ulcers and eye lesions. Premature ejaculation (PE) is a common male sexual dysfunction that can cause psychological problems both for the man and his partner. Our objective in this study was to determine the incidence of PE in BD, and to compare with normal healthy controls (NHC). Material and Method: We enrolled 70 male patients who were diagnosed with BD according to the international diagnostic criteria and 70 NHC who were chosen among the health care professionals working in our hospital in this study. Of the patients with PE complaint, a detailed medical history was taken, intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) was determined, and afterwards subjects were divided into subgroups defined by Waldinger. Findings: PE was determined in 24 (34.2%) of 70 BD cases, whereas in 22 (31.4%) of 70 NHC subjects. In terms of PE ratio, statistically significant difference was not detected between the two groups (p> 0.05). Among BD cases, the mean IELT was maeasured as 112.4 ± 55.2(12-375) seconds for those with PE, whereas 246.9 ± 104.5(126-812) seconds for those without PE (p <0.05). Among NHC group, those who were diagnosed with PE displayed the mean IELT to be 112.9 ± 52.2(14-385) seconds, while who were not diagnosed with PE 247.3 ± 106.1(125-820) seconds (p <0.05). Conclusion: The incidence of PE in patients with BD were similar to NHC group. Compatible with other studies, PE which is reported most frequently among BD, has been detected life time long.
