Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of complicated cysts/abcesses using conventional MRI and diffusion-weighed imaging.

METHODS

In this retrospective study, 36 complicated cysts from 32 women with no solid lesion in their breasts were examined bu using conventional and diffusion weighed MRI.

RESULTS

The apparent diffusion coefficent (ADC) was measured to be 0,57±0,2 x 10-3cm2/sn. This ADC value is much smaller than benign, smaller than malign lesions.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

In conclusion, in differentiating complicated cyst/abcess and malign lesions, DAG was found to be unreliable on its own. Conventional MRI findings were also necessary for diagnosis. This was especially important for patients who are planned to undergo lumpectomy and quadrantectomy.
