Abstract
AIM: To evaluate the clinical and radiological evaluation of patients with distal radius comminuted fractures treated with external fixation. MATERIAL and METHOD: In 1992-1997 twenty patients with twenty two distal radius comminuted fractures were evaluated with Gartland and Werley's system clinically and with Scheck's criteria radiologically. Mean follow up was 47 months (35-72) and mean patient age is 57 years (19-80). The study has 13 imale (65%) and 7 female (35%) patients All of the fractures were Freykman type VII and VIII RESULTS: We obtained 15 excellent (68%), 5 good (22%) and 2 poor (10%) results clinically. Also we had 22 (100%) satisfactory outcomes for radial lenght and radial angle but 17 (78%) satisfactory results for volar tilt radiologically. CONCLUSION: We believe that external fixation is a useful choice for comminuted fractures of distal radius.
