Abstract

Spontaneous bile duct perforation (SBDP) is a rare cause of acute abdomen in childhood. We herein report a 9 year-old boy who was admitted in the emergency and hospitalized with abdominal pain and vomiting. With the initial diagnosis of perforated appendicitis after physical examination, ultrasonography and blood analyses, the patient had undergone emergent laparotomy. During laparotomy Spontaneous bile duct perforation (SBDP) was detected and t-tube drainage was performed. The patient was discharged uneventfully. Among the causes of acute abdominal pain during childhood, SBDP must be considered.
