Abstract

The first Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) of breast has been performed in Turkey in 1981. There are only 6 published studies about FNAB before 1990. The number is 22 after 1990. The review of studies revealed that the rate of inadequate material was betvveen 2.6-30.8%, suspected cases was between 2.0-45.9%, false negative was between 0-22.5%, false positive was between 0-40.4% and accuracy was betvveen 76.9-98.4%. Two studies that compared FNAB to tru-cut biopsy showed that there was no significant difference in results. Asa conclusion, although FNAB is new in Turkey, it becomes widespread quickly.
