Abstract
AİM: To determine the factors that effect the pregnancy rates of the patients performed intrauterine insemination(IUI) at infertility department in Ege Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective analysis was undertaken between April- September 2006 to identify prognostic factors effecting the treatment outcome in 310 infertile patients managed by intrauterine insemination in which, ovulation was stimulated with clomiphene citrate or human menopausal gonadotrophin. FINDINGS: The overall pregnancy rate was %5,2. Statistical significance was present in success of İUİ by age > 35 years, duration of infertility > 5 years, marriage for >15 years, sperm concentration <15xl06/ml, motility < %40 after preparation. On the other hand, unilateral tubal obstruction, the treatment modalities used for ovulation induction had no significant effect on the pregnancy rate s. The amusing parameter effecting the pregnancy rates in our study is the IUI numbers performed. Patients İUİ acchieved twice, once or none have the pregnancy rates of 0(%0), 3(%3,19) and 13(6,95) respectively. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that having İUİ the first time may be considered as a predictive criteria of the success for pregnancy. In addition, further studies with wide series are necessary for determining whether the number of IUI effect the pregnancy rates or not.
