Abstract
0.625 Mg. oral estrogen were administered to during three months 37 and transdermal estrogen to 48 of the patients that had come to our Menopause Clinic. Lipid profiles were compared before and after the treatment. In the group with transdermal estrogen cholesterol level decreased 6.3 % (p<0.05). HDL level decreased 6.3 % (p<0.05). LDL level decreased 7 % (p>0.05). Trigliserid level decreased 2.2% (p>0.05). In the other group that used oral estrogen the cholesterol level decreased 6.67 (p>0.05). HDL level decreased 4.9 % (p>0.05). LDL level decreased 14 % (p<0.01) but trigliserid level increased 4.6 % (p<0.05). We have concluded that the route of administration (oral or transdermal) of estrogen does not affect the lipid profile of postmenopausal patients.
