Abstract
Turkish language reform was iniated in 1928, by the founder of Turkish Repııblic, Kemal Atatürk. This study was conducted to analyze the impact of the language reform on the Turkish radiology literatüre. To accomplish this, we counted the words, as regard of their ethymological origins, in the fırst and the last issue of the journal of Turkish Society of Radiology. Över a 49-year period, the percentage of the vvorcls of Turkish origin have increased only 11.5 %. The words belonging to Central Semitic language family (mainly Arabic) have decreased drammaticaly, whereas the tendency to use the words in Indo- European language family has increased. On the grounds of the above-mentioned results, it is hard to say that we have achieved the aims of the Turkish language reform in the Turkish Radiology literatüre. Further suggestions, especially with regard to the future policies of Turkish Society of Radiology, are discussed.
